Habits That Can Help You Achieve Your Goals
Last week we talked about the bad habits that destroy focus and productivity. This week, I’d like to share with you habits that can help you achieve your goals.
Habits that can help us move towards our goal, and also help us develop a greater mental strength to tackle our day to day goals. It's about developing mental resilience that can lead to a lasting impact on our life.
In this episode, I would like to share with you some habits that can help you achieve your goals that can ultimately lead to success in life.
Replacing Self - Pity With Gratitude
You might say it’s easier said than done, but I actually learned and practiced this when I had Covid. Instead of reacting with self-pity, I was able to turn it into gratitude. Responding consciously can truly show us that we are unstoppable.
Research also proves that gratitude affects our well-being. Gratitude can improve physical health. People who express gratitude have healthier immune systems, suffer less from aches and pains, exercise more frequently, sleep better, and enjoy a better general standard of health.
Holding On To Our Power And Forgiving Others
Forgiving may be the hardest habit that one can practice, but it is also empowering. I don’t openly share about my husband’s journey, however it has taught me alot about forgiving.
My husband has gone through depression and substance abuse. That caused him to be abusive towards me and our marriage suffered. Despite our circumstances, I decided to stick by him and forgive him.
Back in 2018, I learned the power of forgiveness, how I can hold on to my power and forgive someone. Forgiving is not easy, but waiting to forgive others until they say they're sorry, actually gives them the control. It can also control our dreams, control our day to day life, and it makes everything else miserable.
Forgiving can also mean being thankful. Be thankful for the pain, because that pain taught you something and made you stronger. Forgiving gives you power.
Embracing Change
Change is inevitable, and it is something we need to learn to adapt to. Change means embracing the present, embracing everything that comes your way, both the positive and the negative.
Be mindful and be conscious when you're embracing the change. Measure your progress and make use of the tools around, and that will prepare you towards achieving your goals in life.
Do Not Get Distracted By Things That You Can't Control
Sometimes, we react to things we can’t control. For example, getting stuck in traffic makes us frustrated, and we can end up cursing or arguing with other people stuck in traffic. It’s a waste of time, and most importantly a waste of our energy.
Instead of getting distracted by something we can't control, it’s better to focus our energy on things we can control. And for this situation we can divert our negative energy to doing more productive things like listening to the radio, reading, learning, anything that can take your mind off the bad situation.
Not Repeating The Same Mistakes
Mistakes are here for a reason, and that is to teach us lessons. But in order for us to learn, we also need to practice self-discipline.
Self-discipline is what we need to not keep on repeating the same mistakes. If you want to see results, you have to make changes, and those changes means having the discipline to not revert back to your old routine or mistakes.
To do this, you must have a goal, a clear vision of what you want to achieve, and the discipline to do what it takes to achieve those goals.
Three short steps you need to follow: First is keeping your eyes on the goal, second is making a list of the reasons why you want to do it, and third is being more conscious and intentional towards your actions.
Don't Give Up Easily
Don't give up easily and have some compassion for yourself and for your failures. Success is not achieved overnight. It takes a lot of hard work and self-discipline. Failures are hard, but are vital to your success. Don’t give up easily, use your failures to keep pushing towards your dreams.
Each time we fail, is one step closer to succeeding. Failure teaches us what not to do the next time.
Conclusion
To achieve your big goals means creating or practicing the above mentioned habits for success. It’s about increasing resilience, increasing mental strength, and getting more out of life that we deserve.
Success is achieved if you do something about it, own your mental strength, and own your power for change.
