Seven Journaling Prompt Questions To Reflect On For 2021
The past two years have been tough for most of us. And as we look forward to the new year, it is only right to look back, reflect, and learn from the past year.
In this episode, I would like to share some of the reflection questions you can ask yourself and your family which you can learn from. It is important for us to know where we are now, for us to know where we are headed. That way, it will help you create the path you want to go to, taking you to your goals.
What Are You Most Proud Of Achieving Last Year?
Think about something you’ve achieved last year that you’re proud of. Appreciate the effort and appreciate the process. And it’s also very important to reflect on the process itself. For me, I learned to put value on my service. Before, my belief system was I have to serve free of charge. But what I realized and what my mentor taught me is that we have to put value in the service we offer. It doesn’t always mean money, it could be in the form of time, or energy. You appreciate the value more if you put a tag on it.
Once you focus on a proud moment, you can work on the pattern. That way you will know how much work you need to do, and be guided by values.
How Did You Feel For The Majority Of The Year?
Reflect on inner experience, how it makes you feel. For me it was feeling good about my body, to be attuned to it. I’m guilty of neglecting my body and that was my focus for last year. To make sure I was healthy mentally and physically.
If You Could Go Back And Change Anything About This Year, What Would That Be?
For me it was about not dwelling on regrets. Regrets are important, you can think about them, but do not dwell on them. Recently, I started reading this book called The Midnight Library. And that just opened my eyes in terms of how important it is to think about not only your future but also your past mistakes or regrets. It will become your guide to when you’re stuck and when you’re choosing a new path.
Another thing is being a perfectionist. When you're a perfectionist, you focus too much on precision and accuracy and that delays work.
Did You Burn Yourself Last Year?
Being burnt out can happen to anybody. For me, it has affected my health. I was experiencing vertigo and it made me realize that I’m taking on too much. This year I know I need to have more clarity and keep myself aligned by focusing on rest and balance.
In Which Area Did You Experience The Most Growth Last Year?
For me, I have been growing, evolving, and surviving more each day. It’s more on me versus me and not others. I do pay close attention to my role models because my goal is to serve just like them. This year, I'm really focusing on the experience.
Which Area Did You Feel The Most Challenged Last Year? And Why Did You Feel Challenged?
Being aware of the challenges you’ve gone through last year can give you clarity on how you want to change next year. For me it was my coaching business. As I’ve mentioned earlier, I was struggling with my belief system that serving others was supposed to be free. The truth is, to have a successful business, don’t be afraid to put value on your services and also to stop trying to be perfect.
Is There Anything You Need To Let Go Off, Release, Or Forgive?
I want to forgive myself for allowing it to feel burnt out. I want to let go of perfection. I’m letting go of these things to focus on rest this year. And I want to go slow in order for me to go fast. These are all excess baggage, and taking these all for the coming year is not a healthy way to welcome 2022. Start fresh and start right.
Reflect…
These are some of the questions you can reflect on to be better aligned for next year. It is important that we look back and learn from the experiences we’ve been through. Let us welcome the holidays with fresh eyes and new beginnings.
